Nerdy Nummies d20 Cookies

Been following Rosanna Pansino on YouTube and watching all of her Nerdy Nummies videos. They are all so awesome and cute! I decided I wanted to try making the d20 cookies for my boyfriend's Pathfinder game. Here's the link to the video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoH2zL…. It occurred to me after attempting to make these that I had never actually made sugar cookies from scratch.... and it totally shows. I had 3 cookies turn out rounded and smooth, and 3 turn out lumpy. When I got to frosting them, I decided to use the lumpy ones first since I figured that I'd mess up the first few times and they were already messed up looking anyways. The frosting definitely needed a completely flat surface to maintain it's shape before drying, sadly that didn't really happen on any of the cookies, so then I had to go to plan B: cover the entire cookie red! And then I ran out of red frosting.... Thankfully my boyfriend's Pathfinder group is fairly small and 4 "good" cookies would be enough, so the two derpy cookies would stay home and be for us to eat together. Ended up switching to putting the numbers on with a toothpick after I frosted one cookie with the icing in it's original store-bought, ready-to-squeeze bag and realized the tip was too big and I didn't have a smaller one.

Thankfully my sister-in-law and I are signed up to take a cookie decorating class at this bake shop not far from me. I could definitely use some tips for rolling out sugar cookie dough, cutting the shapes, and obviously decorating with royal icing. It's certainly not as easy as it looks. But at least my boyfriend thought all of the cookies turned out great (even the derpy-looking ones ). And most importantly, they taste good too!
